National People’s Party was founded by Mr Adama Barrow in 2019. He was a member of the United Democratic Party, but he resigned from the party in 2016 in order to run as a coalition candidate.

According to the coalition Memorandum of Understanding, Mr Barrow was supposed to serve a term of three years and call for new elections, but he changed his mind and formed his own party instead.

Mr Barrow was born in Makamang Kunda, and he attended Muslim High School.
